Chex Colonel Lena is a very kind stallion that has brains, bloodlines, bone, build, awesome athletic ability, extreme ‘trainability’ plenty of staying power – and is passing that all onto his get. His pedigree is loaded with legendary foundation cow horse sires – Doc O’ Lena/King Fritz/Colonel Freckles/Peppy San (see allbreedpedigree), plus outstanding mare power with Omega Command and Minnie Gal.  At 16 years old, Chex is still my favorite horse to ride/gather cattle on/work cattle on – plus he is still fun to cut on, and he is sound. His get are everything a breeder loves to brag on, good looking, good minded, good sized, very athletic and handy, VERY cowy, - these are good looking, 'using' type horses.  Chex Colonel Lena is bred and built to perform and produce performers - so far - so great!

In today's economy – breeding your good mare to Chex Colonel Lena is ‘good ole foundation’ value for your breeding dollars.

Stud Fee $850.00 (LFG)  Includes non-fundable $150.00 booking fee.

Discounts given for proven or multiple mares.

Mare care $8.50/day Dry & $10.00/day Wet.

Bueno Blue Badger

Bueno Blue Badger is a 2000 AQHA/FQHA
96% Foundation bred Smokey Grullo Stallion and is homozygous for the black gene so he will never throw a red based foal.  He also carries a creme gene and, of course, dun factor.  He is a Smokey black dun (Grullo), which he consistently throws to his beautiful, correct foals along with great dispositions, and trainable, willing minds.  Color is the icing on the cake.

A grullo (pronounced "grew-yo") colored horse is a black horse with dun factor.  Dun dilutes coat color.  Bueno Blue Badger (Blue) is a Smokey Grullo so he has a cream gene making his coat color diluted even further.  He is homozygous for black (EE) so he cannot throw a red-based foal making his offspring mostly blacks and grullos.  A bay is possible only if your mare has black points but the cross could also produce a buckskin or buckskin/dun since he carries the cream gene and dun factor too, Bay would be least likely.  If your sorrel/chestnut mare has no hidden Agouti then there is no possibility of Bay, Zebra Dun, Buckskin or Dunskin.  You will only get a Smokey Grullo, Grullo, Smokey Black, or Black. You will never get a red foal when breeding your mare to "Blue".

Blue is a Smokey Grullo with no white markings and loads of Dun factor markings and he is UC Davis tested to be homozygous black. He also carries a creme gene which is what makes him a Smokey Grullo and not just a Grullo. He will produce Grullo, Smokey Grullo, Dunskin, Zebra Dun, Smokey Black, Black, Bay, Buckskin as well as the possibility of a Smokey Creme foal (a double diluted black horse).  He has been producing a high percentage of dun factor in his foals.

Blue has the kindest heart. He is a true gentleman in every way. He has only been used for breeding, due to an injury as a youngster but he is 100% sound now and is a nice fluid mover with tons of athletic ability.

He will be standing at stud here at The Lewis Ranch Stallion Station for a stud fee of only $600 with a $50 booking fee that goes toward that stud fee via live cover, on farm insemination or cooled or frozen shipped semen.  Shipping Cooled semen is still only $175 this year and mare care is only $7/day for a dry mare and $9/day for a wet mare (with a foal at her side).  Click on the link for his full pedigree:

Pbs Starbuck is a Foundation bred Quarter Horse Dunskin Stallion

He is a 96% color producer with his first 2 foal crops of 22 foals hitting the ground -only one didn't get his cream gene or dun factor...and it was a bay colt out of a buckskin mare, hard to believe that neither through that cream gene in there.

...21 of his foals have been palomino, palomino dun, buckskin or buckskin/dun (dunskin) with 1 red dun, and 1 zebra dun.

...and he has been bred to red, bay and black mares...as well as paints.

Play Starbuck's Video

Pbs Starbuck is a Poco Bueno, Skipper W and Two Eyed Jack foundation bred American Quarter horse Dunskin Colored Stallion.  Check him out!  He is gorgeous, athletic and gentle and is throwing the same.  He is  92% foundation bred.  PBS Starbuck is a Dunskin with creme, Agouti and Dun genes.   He is black based in color and  should sire 75% color but has sired almost 100% color, so far...  Palominos/duns, buckskin/duns and a red dun, zebra dun and one bay.

This awesome stud has all black points with no white on him and stands at 15.1hh.  Sired by SGT Poco King Buck ( X Poco Cherrio a strong Poco Bueno bred quarter horse stallion) and out of a beautiful quarter horse Palomino mare, Kayla Star (Two Eyed Jack and Skipper W breeding as well as Poco Bueno).  Several generations of color behind him on both sides of this great pedigree. Very laid back and sweet disposition.  Straight and correct conformation.   He sorts, trail rides and goes through water chest high, hi-lines, goes over rocks and creeks and logs and rides quietly with other horses on the trail.  He carries the flag at shows while performing the Grand Entry, beautifully.  He is currently in training for roping, reining and working cowhorse and will be showing as his breeding schedule allows.  His stud fee will be $600 with a $50 booking fee that goes towards that stud fee with $50 discounts for booking early (by January 1), multiple mares (even if booked to one of our other stallions), proven mares and referral discounts (tell a friend).   He has been taught to mount the phantom for Artificial insemination and shipping of semen across the country.   His semen has been evaluated and is great for shipping and he had a great conception rate on the 2007, 2008 as well as the 2009 breeding seasons, with live cover, Ai and shipped semen.   Scroll down for contracts.

We offer the $50 off multiple mares booked to him or any of our stallions here at The Lewis Ranch Stallion Station. Take advantage of our discounts and save on any of our stallions stud fees.   Book to different stallions, tell your friends about our ranch and our stallions and if your friends book to any of our stallions we will give you an extra $50 off for each friend plus give each friend $50 off their stud fee as well

The chance of getting a sorrel/chestnut foal when your mare is bred to Starbuck is about 12.50% and the chance of getting a bay are about 9.38% if your mare does not carry Agouti (black points).  Go to our site at www.lewisranch.com and find out what your mare should throw when bred to Pbs Starbuck (he carries creme, Agouti, dun factor and the red and black genes).

GWS Lenas Drifter

GWS Lenas Drifter is an AQHA registered 2008 Red Roan Stallion that is Homozygous for Roan and Homozygous for Agouti which means he will always throw a roan and always throw a bay roan if your mare carries the black gene. In the absence of a black gene he will throw a red roan.

He is Freckles Playboy and Smart Little Lena X Bill Cody, Driftwood and Jackie Bee bred.  He will be taught, in the Spring of 2010, as a 2 year old, to mount the phantom, collect into an Artificial Vagina for Artificial Insemination and Shipped Cooled/Frozen semen across the country.  Check him out and look for him in 2010 standing here at The Lewis Ranch Stallion Station to a limited book of mares for an introductory stud fee of $500 and a booking fee of $50 that goes toward that stud fee.

Book early, by January 1, and save $50 off his stud fee, book multiple mares or book with a friend and save another $50 each (not limited to booking to the same stallion).

He is tested homozygous for Roan (Rn/Rn) and also for Agouti (AA) so he will always throw a roan foal and will throw bay roans when bred to mares that carry a black gene and throw it (ie: bay, black, brown, buckskin, grulla, perlino, blue roan, smokey black and even gray with a black base) as he will take the black and restrict it to points and then roan the base color.

His disposition is incredible.  Sweet, gentle and willing to learn.  He is athletic and smart and we have plans to compete in cowhorse events with him.

Munez Smokin Tater

Standing here at The Lewis Ranch Stallion Station and only for a limited time in California.

Munez Smokin Tater   is a Triple Registered 2007 AQHA  Bay Stallion  (APHA & NFQHA) and is a grandson of Mr Gun Smoke.  He is 95% Foundation with greats such as Cutter Bill actually on his papers along with the legendary Mr Gun Smoke and Royal King , just off his papers and a sire that is present in many of the current day cutting horses.  He is also double bred Poco Bueno , Leo, Doc Bar, Okie Leo and more.  He is a solid bay quarter horse whose sire (now deceased) was a double  registered AQHA/APHA  (Overo) son of Mr Gun Smoke.   His dam also came from 2 NCHA money earners as were most of the horses on his dam's side of the pedigree.  Click on his registered name to view his extended pedigree.

"Tater"  is owned by Elizabeth Green, owner of EZG Performance Horses of Iowa City, IA.  He is a good-looking, well put together stallion who has a winning disposition to go

with his winning bloodlines.  His owner has plans to show him as a 4 year old, after getting a small crop of foals on the ground out of a few quality mares here in California, and across the U.S.

He will be standing here at The Lewis Ranch Stallion Station in  2010 and will be taught to mount the phantom for collection into an AV for on farm artificial insemination, cooled shipped semen across the country, as well as frozen semen to preserve this tremendous bloodline forever.   His introductory stud fee will be just $500 with a $50 booking fee that goes toward that stud fee.  Mare care is $7/day for a dry mare and $9/day for a wet mare (with a foal at her side).  The cost for cooled shipped semen shipped via Fed Ex is only $175 to anywhere in the U.S and Canada.

There will be a Live Foal Guarantee with all breedings to this stallion and we will also offer a Live Colored Foal Guarantee to any APHA Regular registry paint mares, with a $100 "Insurance"  fee paid with the current year's stud fee.  This $100 Insurance fee would give you the right to rebreed your mare again to this stallion, with no charge for the stud fee the following year, if your foal from that mating were to be a solid paint-bred foal and not have enough paint markings for regular registry with APHA.   This foal would still be an APHA solid paint-bred registered foal, with full APHA registration papers, but this rebreed would give you a second chance to get another  foal with color and regular APHA registry status.  Normal rebreeding expenses will apply such as mare care and shipping charges (in a case of shipped semen), and the rebreed must be done the same breeding season the solid paint- bred foal is born.

Tater arrived at The Lewis Ranch Stallion Station on the 19th of October in time for our Open House/Stallion Preview on Saturday October 24th but weather has not

permitted new photos of him for a proper flyer/poster or for this web site.  We apologize for the quality of the photos.  We will be getting current pictures of him for this web site as soon as weather permits.  Please scroll down to view his pedigree and print contracts for this stallion in pdf format.
